Admission in best engineering colleges : Engineering remains one of the most popular streams for undergraduate study in India, several decades after its initial rise to fame. Amongst all the countries in the world, India adds the largest number of engineers to its workforce each year. Getting into one of the top ranked engineering colleges in the country requires years of consistent and arduous effort.
Admission in best engineering colleges in India
For admission to Bachelors in Engineering (BE) or Bachelors in Technology (B. Tech) programmes, the JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) is the most widely accepted exam by colleges across the country. It consists of objective-type questions on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The topics tested are those taught in Class 11 and 12 in CBSE and other State Boards. In 2018, over 10 lakh students appeared for the first round of the JEE exam – the JEE Mains.
The JEE Mains is designed to test your conceptual understanding of topics in the 3 subjects, not your ability to memorize formulae. The questions are more often application based. Some of the topics that are repeatedly tested on the exam include –
- Physics – Electrodynamics, Mechanics, Optics (especially Wave Optics), Laws of motion, and Heat & Thermodynamics.
- Chemistry – Thermodynamics, Chemical Bonding & Periodic Table, Redox reactions, Solid State, Solutions, Gases, Carbonyl compounds & their derivatives
- Mathematics – Differential and Integral Calculus, as well as Coordinate geometry (both 2-D and 3-D), Inverse Trigonometry functions, Sequence and Series, Circles, Applications of Derivatives, Matrices & Determinants
(All topics will be tested, but these topics have been seen consistently on the exam year after year)
Having the right study material and a smart strategy is necessary to crack the JEE exam as the syllabus is vast and one can feel lost without appropriate guidance. You’ll find here IIT JEE Books for the JEE exam, and to create your study plan, follow our IIT preparation guide here.
